Rockford ChristianFellowship Band (RCFBand)
RCFBand, located in Rockford, Illinois, was organized in 1985 by Fred M. Hubbell as part of an effort to encourage the performance of concert music within the church and community . The band is independent of any religious affiliation and has grown to include musicians representing many churches. Over 250 musicians have played with the concert band in the 30 years of its ministry.
Rockford ChristianFellowship Band (RCFBand) is a result of the Chicago ChristianFellowship Band (CCFBand) which was founded in 1964 as a program for a series of evangelical meetings in the old tablernacle of the Methodist campgrounds in Des Plaines, IL. The group of musicians who came together from the Elmwood Park Bible Church, Bethel Community Church and the North Side Gospel Center enjoyed the combined experience so much that they continued to practice together and began accepting concert dates. The CCFBand director for over 25 years was Mr. LeRoy Frizane, who has been followed by several other directors including his son Ken Frizane.
Fred Hubbell (founder of RCFBand), Steve Lilja, and George Strombeck have directed both bands which have combined on several occasions to perform 'encore concerts'.
Fred Manning Hubbell (1924-2007) was the principal conductor for RCFBand until an accident forced his retirement in 2001. The band is now conducted by George E. Strombeck, noted composer, arranger, instrumentalist, and director.
As part of its concert schedule. RCFBand has performed annual spring concerts at First Covenant which have included 'encore concerts' with CCFBand. In later years these 'encore concerts' were designated the "Fred M. Hubbell Memorial Concert".
